Your Transition to Adulthood Survey

We’re excited to be launching a brand-new phase of the Gemini study, you move from adolescence into early adulthood.

In this next chapter, we want to learn more about how young people develop eating habits, how they feel about food and their bodies, and how these experiences differ from person to person.

By taking part in our new survey, you’ll be helping us understand how to better support young people to build healthy eating patterns and feel good about their bodies and themselves. And because you’re twins, your input offers researchers a rare and valuable chance to explore how genes (nature) and life experiences (nurture) shape eating behaviour during this important stage of life.

How Can I Take Part?

As part of this next phase of the Gemini study, we’re asking you to complete two simple tasks:

1. A “Transition to Adulthood” survey – about 30 to 60 minutes to complete

2. Three short diet diaries – about 15 minutes each, done on three different days

⭐ Step One: Complete your “Transition to Adulthood” survey

This is an online questionnaire that asks about: What and how you eat, how you feel about food and your appearance, your thoughts and experiences around eating and wellbeing, and your mood and emotions

It takes about 30 to 60 minutes to complete. You can take breaks or come back later — just make a note of the code the survey platform gives you. At the end, we’ll ask for your contact details so we can send your £10 voucher and get in touch about the next step.

❗Some questions may feel personal or a bit unusual - but please know they are important and your honesty will make a big difference. Everything you tell us is kept strictly confidential.

⭐ Step Two: Complete three daily diet diaries

After you finish the survey, we’ll text you links to fill out three quick diet diaries using an online tool called Intake24. These ask what you ate and drank over the course of a day. The website is designed to make this easy, and will prompt you along the way.

  • Each diary takes about 15 minutes

  • Please complete each one on the same day you receive the link via text

  • If anything looks incomplete or unclear in your response, we might ask you to redo one or more diaries so please do be as detailed as possible when completing these

  • You will receive a £20 voucher for completing all three diaries in detail on the days that we send you the link

🎁 Vouchers

To thank you for your time, you’ll receive a total of £30 in vouchers:

- £10 after you complete the survey

- £20 after you complete and we check all three diet diaries

Thank you so much for continuing to be part of Gemini — your input is really valuable to us, and helps shape research that can make a real difference to young people’s health and wellbeing!
